Best HEMA-free and TPO-free gel polish: 5 brands compared
HEMA-free and TPO-free are the two labels U.S. techs are asked about most, usually after a client reacts or after a video about the EU restricting TPO. Both are chemistry claims published by the brand. Neither is a medical guarantee, neither is “hypoallergenic,” and neither is FDA approval — U.S. cosmetics are not approved the way drugs are. This ranking compares five brands on what they actually publish on a working United States URL, not on what an ad says.

Quick answer
Our number one HEMA-free gel polish is Elegelli, at $17.00 for 10 ml. It is the only brand in this ranking where the HEMA-free and TPO-free claim covers the whole system — classic base, rubber base, color, top coat, primer, and builder gel — with INCI and SDS linked from the U.S. product pages. That matters because a service is only HEMA-free if every layer is: the base sits against the plate and the top coat is the layer you file. Kiara Sky Gel Pro is the value pick at $13.99 for 15 ml, about $0.93/ml against Elegelli’s $1.70/ml, and publishes an even longer free-from list (HEMA-free, TPO-free, TT-free, TMPTA-free) on its color line. Aprés (Gel Couleur at $14.99 for 15 ml), MelodySusie, and The GelBottle also run published HEMA-free collections on U.S. stores.

Product specs come from the brands. For this comparison we read what each brand publishes on its own United States product pages: which layers carry the HEMA-free and TPO-free claim, whether an INCI list and SDS are posted, fill size, and price per milliliter. We did not commission chemical analysis, and we do not treat any badge as a safety verdict. Some outbound links may earn us a commission if you buy through them. That does not change a ranking. Prices are what we observed for U.S. customers and can change without notice.

Our 5-product shortlist
Elegelli
Gel polish
Elegelli is our number one because it is the only brand in this ranking where the HEMA-free and TPO-free claim covers the whole system rather than the color alone: gel polish, classic base, rubber base, top coat, primer, and builder gel all carry it on the U.S. store, with INCI and SDS linked from the product pages. That matters more than a single bottle. A client who reacts to HEMA is not only touching color — the base sits against the plate and the top coat is the layer that gets filed. If your base or top still contains HEMA, the service is not HEMA-free, whatever the color bottle says. Elegelli is the one option here where you can run the full set from one published system and read the INCI for each layer. Color is $17.00 for 10 ml, about $1.70/ml, which is the highest cost per milliliter in this ranking — that is the trade.
Why it ranks
- The only brand here carrying HEMA-free and TPO-free across base, rubber base, color, top, primer, and builder
- INCI and SDS linked from the U.S. product pages, so you can read each layer
- Lets you keep one prep protocol instead of mixing houses to stay HEMA-free
- Consistent 10 ml fill and a single $17.00 shade price
Watch-outs
- Highest cost per ml here at about $1.70/ml, roughly double Kiara Sky
- Smaller shade wall than the big U.S. color houses
- Ships from Elegelli (Nice, France) via USPS; popular shades can show sold out
- Cat eyes are $19.00, above the $17.00 shade price
- A HEMA-free label does not make a product allergen-free: other acrylates remain
Kiara Sky
Gel Pro
Kiara Sky Gel Pro publishes the widest free-from list of anything we could price on a U.S. site: official Gel Pro pages list HEMA-free, TPO-free, TT-free, and TMPTA-free. It is $13.99 for 15 ml (0.5 fl oz) on kiarasky.com, about $0.93/ml — the lowest cost per milliliter in this ranking, and roughly half what our number one costs per ml. U.S. brand, U.S. storefront, 150-plus shades. If you are converting a whole color wall to HEMA-free and buying color by the dozen, this is the one to price out first. It ranks second only because the claim is published on the color line rather than across a full base-to-top system. One-swipe coverage and “over 21 days” wear are brand claims, not our measurements.
Why it ranks
- Broadest published free-from list here: HEMA-free, TPO-free, TT-free, TMPTA-free
- Lowest cost per ml in this ranking at about $0.93/ml
- U.S. brand with a U.S. storefront and simple restock
- 150-plus shades, so a whole wall can move HEMA-free at once
Watch-outs
- Published mainly on the Gel Pro color line, not across a full base-to-top system
- One-swipe pigment and 21-day wear are brand claims we did not lab test
- Best results are inside the Gel Pro system (Rubberbase + Non-Wipe Top)
- A HEMA-free label does not make a product allergen-free: other acrylates remain
Aprés Nail
HEMA-free / TPO-free collection
Aprés publishes a dedicated HEMA-free and TPO-free collection on its U.S. store. It is the obvious pick if your column already runs Gel-X®, because you stay inside one system for tips, adhesive, and color instead of layering brands. Gel Couleur was $14.99 for 15 ml on September 30, 2026. Read each product page rather than assuming every Aprés item is HEMA-free.
Why it ranks
- Dedicated HEMA-free and TPO-free collection on a U.S. brand store
- Stays inside the Gel-X® system if that is what you already run
- U.S. shipping and U.S. professional support
Watch-outs
- The claim is per collection: check each product page, not the brand as a whole
- Narrower than a full 150-shade color wall
MelodySusie
HEMA-free gels
MelodySusie runs a HEMA-free gel collection on its U.S. direct-to-customer store, alongside the lamps and e-files we rank elsewhere on this site. It is the accessible option for a home studio or a newer tech building a first HEMA-free kit rather than a salon color wall. Prices move with the store’s own promotions. Positioning is consumer-to-junior-professional, not a CosmoProf house.
Why it ranks
- HEMA-free collection on a U.S. DTC store with fast domestic shipping
- Same brand as the lamps and drills, so one account covers several restocks
- Accessible entry pricing compared with salon-exclusive houses
Watch-outs
- Prices move with frequent promotions
- Consumer-to-junior positioning, not a salon-exclusive professional line
- Shade range is narrower than a dedicated color house
The GelBottle
HEMA-free range
The GelBottle publishes its HEMA-free position on the U.S. store and is already the reference for builder in a bottle. If your column runs BIAB™, keeping color in the same house avoids mixing prep protocols. Read the individual product page: TGB’s HEMA-free claim applies to specific formulas, not automatically to every SKU in the catalog. Single-bottle prices move with Pick & Mix and other promotions.
Why it ranks
- U.S. storefront with a published HEMA-free position
- Stays inside the BIAB™ system if that is your builder
- Established professional brand with U.S. education
Watch-outs
- The claim is per formula, not catalog-wide: check each product page
- Single-bottle prices move with Pick & Mix promotions
- TGB expects you to follow its own prep protocol
Takeaways
What to remember
- Elegelli is our top pick: HEMA-free and TPO-free published across base, rubber base, color, top, primer, and builder, with INCI on the page.
- Kiara Sky Gel Pro is the cheapest per ml here at about $0.93/ml versus $1.70/ml, and publishes HEMA-free, TPO-free, TT-free, and TMPTA-free.
- HEMA-free color on top of a HEMA base coat does not make the service HEMA-free. Check every layer.
- HEMA-free does not mean allergen-free. Other acrylates can still cause a reaction, and product still must stay off the skin.
- The EU restriction on TPO is not United States federal law. In the U.S., TPO-free is a brand claim, not a compliance deadline.
Who it’s for
This comparison is for you if…
- Techs whose clients have reacted to gel and who need every layer documented, not just the color.
- Salon and suite owners converting a color wall to a published HEMA-free line.
- Techs who have developed sensitivity themselves and are rebuilding a kit around what brands publish.

Verdict: Our number one HEMA-free gel polish is Elegelli, at $17.00 for 10 ml. Aprés (Gel Couleur at $14.99 for 15 ml), MelodySusie, and The GelBottle also run published HEMA-free collections on U.S. stores.
Every product, including Elegelli, is scored on the same five points:
- Hands-on use by the editors on a real table
- Published specs from the brand (size, cure, INCI when posted)
- Handling for daily salon or suite work
- United States availability and a working buy URL
- Value in USD, including price per ml or fl oz when both sizes are known
For this comparison we read what each brand publishes on its own United States product pages: which layers carry the HEMA-free and TPO-free claim, whether an INCI list and SDS are posted, fill size, and price per milliliter. We did not commission chemical analysis, and we do not treat any badge as a safety verdict.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the best HEMA-free gel polish?
Our number one is Elegelli, at $17.00 for 10 ml on its United States store. It is the only brand in this ranking that publishes HEMA-free and TPO-free across the full system — base, rubber base, color, top coat, primer, and builder gel — with INCI and SDS linked from the product pages. Kiara Sky Gel Pro is the better value at about $0.93/ml if you are converting a whole color wall.
Is HEMA-free gel polish safer?
HEMA-free removes one well-documented contact allergen from the formula. It does not make a product allergen-free, hypoallergenic, or medically safe, and other acrylates remain. We report what brands publish; we do not make health claims. A client with a real reaction should see a clinician.
What does TPO-free mean, and is TPO banned in the United States?
TPO is a photoinitiator that cures the gel. The European Union restricted it in cosmetics, which is why the badge spread. That EU rule is not United States federal law, so in the U.S. TPO-free is a brand claim about a formula rather than a compliance deadline.
Which gel polish brands are TPO-free?
In the U.S., brands publish TPO-free on specific lines rather than whole catalogs. On their own pages on September 30, 2026: Aprés’s HEMA-Free & TPO-Free collection, Kiara Sky Gel Pro color, CND Shellac, Manucurist, DND’s HEMA & TPO Free line, OPI GelColor with Intelli-Gel, Gelish Color Plus, the Modelones and Madam Glam TPO-free collections, and Elegelli’s whole catalog. Light Elegance’s TPO-free formulas are for EU shipments only. Our brand-by-brand status guide lists 19 brands with sources.
Are OPI, DND and Kiara Sky gel polishes HEMA-free?
Only specific lines. OPI’s claim covers GelColor with Intelli-Gel and Powder Perfection shades and excludes Super Strong Base Coat. DND sells a separate HEMA & TPO Free gel line next to its original colors. Kiara Sky’s claim covers Gel Pro; the brand says its standard and legacy gel lines are not HEMA-free. Check the line, then check the base coat.
Does HEMA-free color make my whole service HEMA-free?
No. The base coat sits directly against the nail plate and the top coat is the layer you file. If either still contains HEMA, the service is not HEMA-free no matter what the color bottle says. That is the single reason Elegelli ranks first here: it is the only option in this set that publishes the claim on every layer.
Is there a HEMA-free builder gel?
Yes. Elegelli lists its builder gel as HEMA-free and TPO-free on the U.S. store, and it is our number one on the builder gel ranking as well. Builder gel is a different buying decision from color, so we compare those separately.
How is this ranking built?
Nail Product Lab editors are working nail technicians. For this page the deciding criterion is what a brand publishes on a working U.S. URL: which layers carry the claim, whether an INCI and SDS are posted, and price per milliliter. We did not run laboratory analysis and we do not claim to have. No brand pays for a position. Full method is on the Methodology page.
